Su yumuşatma işlemi iyon değiştirme yöntemiyle gerçekleşmektedir. İyon değişimi sertliğe sebep olan kalsiyum ve magnezyum iyonlarını içeren suyun, sodyum formunda katyonik bir reçineden geçirilmesi suretiyle gerçekleşmektedir. :

YUMUŞATMA SİSTEMLERİ

Su yumuşatma işlemi iyon değiştirme yöntemiyle gerçekleşmektedir. İyon değişimi sertliğe sebep olan kalsiyum ve magnezyum iyonlarını içeren suyun, sodyum formunda katyonik bir reçineden geçirilmesi suretiyle gerçekleşmektedir. Sert su sodyum bazlı katyonik reçineden geçerken içerisindeki sertlik iyonları (Ca+2 ve Mg+2) ; reçineye bağlı bulunan Na+ iyonları ile yer değiştirir.
Belli miktarda sert su reçine yatağından geçtikten sonra, reçine tanecikleri tamamıyla, sertlik mineralleriyle kaplanır. Bu durumda sertlik minerallerinin tutulması son bulur. Sertlik iyonlarının tekrar sudan tutulabilmesi için reçine taneciklerinin sertlik minerallerinden kurtarılarak tekrar sodyum taneciklerinin bağlanması gereklidir. Bu işleme ‘rejenerasyon’ adı verilir. Rejenerasyon işlemi, geri yıkama, tuzlu su emiş, yavaş durulama, hızlı durulama ve tuzlu su dolum olmak üzere 5 ana aşamadan oluşmaktadır. 5 aşamanın tamamlanması sonucu reçine, kalsiyum (Ca2+) ve Magnezyum (Mg2+) iyonlarını bırakırken, sodyum (Na+) iyonlarını tekrar kendine bağlar ve servis pozisyonuna hazır hale gelir.

Su Yumuşatma Ünitelerinin dizaynı yapılırken reçine tankı içine yerleştirilecek olan reçine miktarı ham su karakterine, günlük ortalama debi ve pik su tüketimlerine bağlı olarak hesaplanır. Ayrıca rejenerasyon işlemi, zaman kontrollü, debi kontrollü veya sertlik analizörü ile çıkış suyu sertlik derecesi ölçümüne bağlı olarak otomasyonlu olarak sağlanabilmektedir.
